Draft means you're still in "testing" phase. It's the mode activated by default when creating an event. Use this mode to test your emails, event website and registration process. All ticket transactions you do while in Draft mode will be cleared out when you Open registration for your event.

Open means registration for your event is opened and attendees can register!
